By the 17th century Värnamo’s iron industry entrepreneurs were making huge progress. Large resources of iron ore were discovered in many places and the first ironworks in this part of the municipality was built in the 1820s, beautifully situated in Gamla Åminne. As the area attracted more and more people the ironworks was moved from Gamla Åminne to Åminne. Today there is an industrial museum, preserving remnants of the past.

On the road between Hånger and Värnamo is Åminne, situated alongside Lake Vidöstern. The iron industry was moved from Gamla Åminne to Åminne in 1899. A community was build up around the works and the railway. Ore was removed from the lake to produce charcoal pig iron. The workers stood on the ice in the winter and scraped the lake bottom through holes in the ice to remove the ore. The blast furnaces were in use until 1934 and the foundry until 1992. Today, it is a museum with a well-preserved blast furnace, coal shed, and much more. Concerts, art exhibitions, markets and other events are also held in the premises.
